Preachables Turkana:

Dear Team Turkana,
Praise God for an incredible three days with men from our neighboring tribes. We know that only the Holy Spirit of God can bring true peace. Baptist missionary Larry Singletary came with four Karamajong men from Uganda and Baptist missionaries Herb Cady and Charlie Daniels came with four Samburu men. Our time together included an interdenominational peace meeting in town, a fellowship time with our Baptist pastors and leaders, and visits to our three Bible storying spots. Other than a few small things, it was a good time of unity.

At the beginning of the peace meeting in town, the Samburu and the Turkana reminded each other that in the past couple of weeks there has been some stealing and killing on both sides. At Kalatum, the village guard came to the Bible story with his machine gun. At Nameyana, one of the Karamajong tried to slip away quietly during the meeting to go to the bathroom. About 30 of the Turkana men saw him leaving and they interrupted the speaker and started yelling at the Karamajong man to not walk alone in their village. We praise God for the steps of peace that were taken. At the town meeting, people from every tribe spoke of their wrongdoings, asked for forgiveness, and symbolically threw down their swords.

At our Baptist fellowship, people from every tribe gave testimonies about how God has changed their lives through Jesus Christ. One Karamajong man was walking with a limp because some Turkana men came to his village, stole all of his animals and shot him a couple of times in the leg. This same man was not mad but praised Jesus for saving him from his sins. At Nasiger, the old men of Turkana and Karamajong sat together, talked together, worshiped together, and held hands and danced together. We praise God again for blessing our time together.

It is a shame that these people have been fighting against each other for so many years. These people look alike and their language is virtually the same language. We know that true peace will come only after people from all sides surrender their hearts and their will to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Love in Christ,
Don, Kathy, Joshua, and Matthew Basha
