MUSLIMS: PRAYING BEYOND THE WALL. The Maldives is an island country of 19 atolls made up of more than 2,000 coral islands in the Indian Ocean. About 200,000 people, who are mostly Muslims, call the Maldives home. Their government prevents them from having access to the gospel. For many years, Christians have prayed that the fear that blinds and binds Maldivians would be broken. Recently, it has seemed that this fear is beginning to crumble. In February, the Maldivian government reportedly arrested about 75 people to prevent protests planned for the next day. The government is desperately seeking a strategy against its opposition party. Events could go in any direction – Islamic extremists could seize the opportunity to hijack power, or there could be the start of real change that would free Maldivians from oppression and manipulation.
