Recently a team of seminary students came to Eastern Africa to spend 10 days in a one-on-one relationship with someone of the same sex from an unreached people group. As they spent hours touring a local city, experiencing the culture of this people group, riding crowded mini buses and drinking gallons of “chai” (hot tea with milk and sugar), they used every opportunity to share about their relationship with Christ and the joy and hope that was theirs. They were told by expert missionaries that probably they would not see anyone come to Christ, but their role would be one of encouraging their partner to take the next step toward faith in God. Several had been on other mission trips but shared that this was the hardest trip they had ever been on. In the middle of a busy city, initially they felt alone and isolated with this partner.

But as the days passed and relationships deepened, they began to feel at home with this stranger. And much to their surprise, one of the partners came to faith in Christ and the remaining days were spent in follow-up for him. And about a month after they left, another “partner” has come to faith in Christ. One will never know how those 10 days changed the future lives of these partners and the future of the church among this people group. One life can make a difference!
