India:
Searching
for true beauty, peace
India’s
state of Jammu and Kashmir is known for two things:
natural beauty and man-made conflict. In June, news
reports indicated that tourism once again was picking
up in Kashmir, to the delight of the many Kashmiri Muslims
who make their livings from the tourism industry. They
tout Kashmir’s mughal gardens —Shalimar
(abode of love), Nishat (garden of pleasure), and Chashma
Shahi (royal spring) – and its lovely lakes and
quaint boathouses.
However, not long after those news reports, much different,
more common new reports followed: 10 dead and 40 wounded
in a resurgence of bloody conflict. Pakistan and India
both have laid claim to the land since the partition
of the two countries more than 50 years ago. Pray that
the fighting stops, that tourism can continue, and that
Kashmiri Muslims in both countries find true beauty
and peace from salvation through faith in Jesus. www.neglectedfields.net
