India:
Floods cause loss of lives, property
As
of August, the floods of 2004 had affected 36.34
million Bangladeshis, had claimed the lives of
747 people, and had destroyed 890,000 homes, 14,271
roads and 1,295 schools. The flier posted on the
wall of the government building said 15,143 cattle
also had died. God said to Jonah that Nineveh had
more than 120,000 people “who cannot tell
their right hand from their left and many cattle
as well. Should I not be concerned about that great
city?” (Jonah 4:11 NIV). Cattle may seem unimportant
to many of us who buy our groceries at a superstore,
but for the people of Bangladesh, cattle often
is their livelihood. Pray for those families who
lost loved one and homes. Pray also for those who
lost their cattle. Ask God to provide for the people
who need cattle to live, and pray that the people
will recognize His provision and worship Him.
